How often should you really visit the dentist?
By Dr. Ritu Singh · · 4 min read
Most people hear that they should see a dentist every six months. That is a good default, but it is not the right answer for everyone.
When six months is right
If your gums are healthy, you rarely get cavities and you don't smoke, a check-up and clean twice a year keeps things that way.
When you should come more often
- You have gum disease or bleeding gums
- You have diabetes or are pregnant
- You smoke or chew tobacco
- You wear braces or aligners
For these patients we usually recommend a visit every three to four months. Your dentist will suggest the right interval after your exam.
